Ya-Wen He

Ya-Wen He, a professor of School of Life Scienences and Biotechnology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Ya-Wen He obtained his Ph.D. from National University of Singapore in 2006, where he studied the DSF-dependent quorum sensing of the phytopathogen Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc). He then worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), where he extended his studies to low oxygen sensing in Xcc. In 2010, he joined SJTU as a principal investigator. The group’s interests include: (1) DSF-dependent quorum sensing of Xcc. (2) Molecular mechanism of Xanthomonadin biosynthesis and its regulation in Xcc; (3) Plant-Xanthomonas interactions via small signaling molecules; (4) Synthetic biology for new metabolite biopesticides. Xinhua Ding, a Ph.D. professor from Shandong Agricultural University leads a working group focused on "Plant-Microbe Interaction". The group's primary interests include: (1) Molecular mechanism analysis of immune elicitor-induced plant immunity and development & application of immune inducers. (2) Unraveling new mechanisms of pathogen-plant interaction, overcoming plant growth-defense trade-offs, and enhancing crop productivity and immunity. (3) Establishing a novel approach for identifying quantitative resistance genes to provide new genes, methods, and varieties for improving broad-spectrum crop resistance. Wei Qian

Professor Wei Qian is the Director of the Institute of Microbiology at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Botany at CAS in 2000, and then he completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Institute of Microbiology, CAS and then has worked at IM-CAS for over twenty years. Prof. Qian's research interest focuses on how pathogenic bacteria sense signals from the host and environment. His group has identified bacterial receptors or sensors to detect quorum sensing signals, iron-depleted environments, the second messenger c-di-GMP, and even plant hormones cytokinin and ethylene. He serves as the Vice President of the Chinese Society for Microbiology and the Chinese Society for Plant Pathology.

Guang-Tao Lu

Guangtao Lu, a Ph D professor of college of life science and technology at Guangxi University, was born in 1968 in Guangxi province, China. He was educated at Zhejiang University for a PhD in phytopathology which was awarded in 2003. From 1999, he has been working on the molecular biology of bacterial plant disease, in particular studying the interaction of Xanthomonas (Xanthomomas campestris and Xanthomonas oryzae) with plants. The major interests in bacteria are in the regulation of virulence gene expression.
